From professionals to amateur, mid-level to community, youth to college, the Treasure Valley has opportunities galore to see see live theater and storytelling events. A thriving opera and ballet scene is also present, providing audiences many different avenues to explore a night out with the arts.

Alley Repertory Theater

Alley Repertory Theater is the premier professional theater company located in Garden City’s rapidly expanding Live-Work-Create District nestled in the heart of Boise, Idaho.

Alley Repertory Theater’s productions tackle a range of themes for people and cultures from all walks of life.

From contemporary, timely, Pulitzer Prize-winning plays to well-known musicals and wild Christmas Extravaganzas, Alley Rep strives to be a company that produces quality, innovative theater.

Three productions a season, generally in October, December, and March.

The Boise Bard Players

The Boise Bard Players is a nonprofit, mobile theatre company making Shakespeare and other classics affordable, relatable, and accessible to the Treasure Valley and beyond. We perform in unconventional locations like historical sites, parks, and breweries, bringing the Bard to the people right in their neighborhood. We exclusively hire local actors, paying a working wage to ensure there are #NoMoreStarvingArtists in our community. Learn more by visiting the link below.

Boise Contemporary Theater

Founded in 1997, BCT is the only nonprofit professional theater within 300 miles dedicated to producing challenging new work. BCT is a recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, a two-time recipient of the National Theater Company Award from the American Theater Wing, and the 2022–23 City of Boise Cultural Ambassador. In its first 25 Seasons, BCT presented over 90 MainStage productions, including 25 world premieres, such as Eric Coble’s The Velocity of Autumn (which continued to Broadway).

BCT typically has a season of five productions between October and April/May. The company also has education opportunities, classes, staged readings, and our hosts of the BIPOC festival every August.

Idaho Shakespeare Festival

The Idaho Shakespeare Festival has been entertaining audiences since 1977, beginning in downtown Boise and now residing at their current location off Warm Spring. Performances are in a 770-seat, state-of-the-art Festival Amphitheater & Reserve nestled in a unique habitat.

The summer season usually consists of five shows, starting in late May and running through the end of September (plus education and youth tours in the late-winter and early spring).

Little Branch connects communities through bold storytelling and the celebration of diverse voices. A company dedicated to providing opportunities for local artists, engaging with underrepresented communities, and creating work that inspires meaningful conversation. Little Branch aims to build a new audience filled with curiosity and the courage to challenge their perspectives.

The Luminary

A female-founded, female-focused new works theatre group based in Boise, Idaho, with a core mission to share the stories of women and other marginalized gender identities, vast and varied as they are.
