This March, step onto the shores of the Puget Sound with Alley Repertory Theater and its production of Deep Blue Sound by Abe Koogler.

On an island in the Pacific Northwest, the community gathers to address the disappearance of the local orca pod.  Friendships fray, tumors grow, new love blooms, wood is chopped, and poems are written. The seasons change.

But what about the whales? Is their absence just a seasonal glitch, or is it a sign of our collective failure to take care of the Earth? DEEP BLUE SOUND is a funny and moving play about the connections we make—and the ones we long to make—to other people, and to the world around us.

Deep Blue Sound argues that there is no better thing to do than turn to each other, to accept help when you need it, to find comfort in the people that love you, and to try to be better for those you love.” - BWOG

Under the direction of Buffie Main, Deep Blue Sound  features a cast of nine, including a mix of company veterans (Patti O’Hara, Janet Lo, Liberty Leeds, Andres Maldonado, and David Rose) and those making their Alley Rep debut (Nova Calverley-Frye, Rebecca Paterson, Katy Weyand, and Jonathon Lythgoe).

This production starts with a pay-what-you-want preview on March 5, followed by opening night on March 6. Performances continue through March 15, 2026 at Visual Arts Collective in Garden City, ID.
